ZDDT.org spreading the message

BULAWAYO – Commitment by Team ZDDT, to its media drive, is fast gaining recognition for the Trust and its work, among members of communities, including development partners locally and farther afield.

Evidence of this may be seen by the measure of impact that the Team’s Website Project is having upon ordinary and fairly distinguished people, who have been approached by this correspondent during the time he has been with the Trust.

Examples may be gleaned from the following accounts:

  • While attending a high profile symposium for civil society leaders in the Capital, mid July, 2010, one dignitary told this correspondent that he regularly read news articles on the Trust’s website. He made this revelation after learning about the correspondent’s link with ZDDT.

  • The Managing Director of a Gweru printing firm, Govern Mudzingwa who, 4 months ago, produced the manuals for a Councillors’ Leadership Training Workshop in that city, admits he is now a firm fan of the website. The course was run by the Trust.

  • Newspaper vendor Nqabutho Mpala, on the corner of 1st Avenue and Fife Street in Bulawayo, claims he visits ZDDT’s website whenever he gets the opportunity. He volunteered this information recently when he got sight of the Trust’s press card displayed on this correspondent’s shirt front. He commended the Team on the effectiveness of its restoration initiatives in local communities. Nqabutho is studying for his A levels via e-learning.

  • A Trenance resident in Bulawayo, Mr. Feisal Greenland, who once worked in the United Kingdom and now works from his home, regularly logs on to www.zddt.org. The first meeting with Feisal occurred by chance, while on a visit to a relative who resides on the Greenland’s property. Feisal, now a firm friend, goes so far as to even down load articles he deems to be of value.

  • Indications are that Bulawayo’s Mayor, Cllr. Patrick Thaba Moyo, and possibly several other Council officials, pay fairly consistent visits to the website. Like most other people who discussed the issue, Cllr. Moyo admitted that his interest was awakened by the focal point in the Trust’s community responsibility initiatives, as reflected in articles read. This quite obviously refers to ZDDT’s insistence on viewing democratically elected Councillors and Community Action Teams (CATs), as key figures and essential entry points into neighbourhoods during community restoration programmes.

A note of interest might be the fact that the Trust’s Field Correspondent regularly posts success stories onto websites of relevant development partners, in relation to ZDDT’s various initiatives involving community restoration work.

Encouraging indications one derives from the above-mentioned accounts, may be considered as evidence of the growing success that Team ZDDT and their partners have achieved through investing in the Media Project. This is particularly so considering the Website Initiative. Such successes no doubt present excellent cause for celebration.
