ZDDT, Environment Africa in Victoria Falls clean up

Proceedings began with various clean-up activities by groups of residents, at select sites throughout the town, culminating in a march by banner wielding participants from the aforementioned cleaning exercises. Marchers converged at the Municipal Offices, where they were welcomed by the Town’s Mayor, Cllr.Nkosilathi Jiyane, Councillors and officials from the event’s organisers, Environment Africa.

Reading from a script, Vice President Nkomo said there was expectation that the improved economic climate engendered by an enabling political environment, would see an increase in tourist visitations at the Victoria Falls and other destinations in the Country.

Mayor Jiyane, commended residents who had participated in the morning’s activities, for volunteering their time and resources in order to ensure the success of the occasion.

Entertainment in the form of marimba music and dramas by several schools in the Town followed the speeches, while vendors had a field day selling their wares.

ZDDT’s Point man at the Falls, Mr. Michael Phiri, represented the Trust.

Earlier in the day he had distributed tools and materials loaned to him especially for the occasion, by Team ZDDT. Local Councillors and their Community Action Teams (CATs) featured prominently in the day’s activities.

The Trust’s Initiative in which cleaning tools and material are distributed to Councillors and CATs, is funded by ECEZ.
