Describing the garden’s purpose, Cllr. Demo said that this and others established in several of the City’s Wards, were intended to alleviate hardship, and added; “It is hoped that produce from this garden will be a factor in the City’s drive to eliminate malnutrition and its attendant Kwashioko disease, the victims of which unfortunately, are usually children.”

Started in February this year, the nutritional garden is an enterprise run by residents from the local community and led by Cllr. Demo and members of his Community Action Team (CAT), utilising expertise, tools and seed supplied by ZDDT.

The scheme is part of a 6 month greening campaign, which was run as a pilot project in the Cities of Bulawayo and Gweru and was funded by aid agency GIZ, cooperating
