The villagers, through their Village Head, Betty Banda and Child Protection Committee Chairperson, Samuel Moyo, applauded ZDDT for the progress in the villagers’ lives and habits.

“Our children have changed for the better this year, a tribute we give to the sponsors and facilitators of the puppetry shows. Our Community has since developed fear of indulging in unprotected sexual acts. We strongly thank ZDDT and their partners for this change.” said Banda.

Her comments concurred with those of Moyo who said, “We are glad to tell you that your organisation helped the village from what could have been, by now, a dangerous veld fire of sexually transmitted infections.”

New Mazwi Community have enjoyed live puppetry shows and it has inspired many positive reactions, after locals thronged the venues and filled them to capacity.

The Geraldine-ZDDT partnered programme has garnered growing support from the village and the surrounding areas.

The concerts also drew the attention of the Mazwi parents, who accompanied their children to watch Young at Heart performing.

Monalisa Sibanda, a school dropout in the village, also told ZDDT News that she will not sleep around with different men. “Those shows warned me against indulging in sexual activities with multiple partners, as this will cause trouble for me.” She said.

Taking advantage of the huge void in local entertainment, puppetry displayed an exacting and positive impact on people’s attitudes as shown in this feature story.
