BULAWAYOGerman Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Albrecht Conze’s visit to Bulawayo, turned out to be a momentous occasion for residents in Ward 15 Old Luveve Township.
Cllr. Israel Mabaleka presides over this neighbourhood.

Ambassador Conze was on a tour of the Township’s public park, after graciously accepting an invitation from ZDDT to view the site of a recent tree-planting exercise.
GTZ in cooperation with the German Government are funders of pilot schemes currently running in the Cities of Bulawayo and Gweru, under a programme known in short as
The Urban Greening, Cleaning and Nutritional Gardens Campaign.

Greening activities that took place at the Old Luveve Park fall under that programme. The initiative aims to restore public parks and develop community run nutritional gardens in urban centres throughout Zimbabwe utilising the cooperation of local residents and councillors.

After being entertained by a traditional drama group, the Ambassador gave a short speech.

He also presented certificates of participation to residents who were involved in two successful Bulawayo tree planting exercises.

Councillor Mabaleka presented gifts of a “Sebenzela“ hat and mug to the distinguished guest before inviting him to water a newly planted sapling which was named in his honour.

Making reference to this special tree Ambassador Conze remarked; “May this tree grow. May it brave the wind. May it survive the dry season and become strong and
may it give shade to the people.”
