From Cowdray Park to Centre Stage: Thamsanqa's Inspiring Journey

For years, the Geraldine Roche Arts Academy (GRAA) was more than a training ground for Thamsanqa Noel Siziba (23); it was a sanctuary where his raw talent was patiently refined into artistry.

Through long evenings of rehearsal, determined practice, and unwavering dedication, he blossomed into a confident performer whose voice and movements carried both power and grace.

Thamsanqa commended the GRAA programme for instilling discipline and inspiring him to pursue his artistic talent:

"The GRAA has been a sharpening tool in my life. It has given me the courage to acquire an academic qualification in the Arts discipline—a dream I had almost abandoned due to lack of finances."

That devotion was rewarded when Thamsanqa received the life-changing news of his acceptance into the prestigious Film and Theatre programme at Midlands State University, in Gweru. He noted that his admission was largely made possible through his GRAA accreditation and experience, which strengthened his application and led to his acceptance.

The announcement was met with joy, pride and celebration, marking the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunity and promise.

Yet, even amid his personal triumph, Thamsanqa’s heart remained firmly rooted in his Cowdray Park community on the northern outskirts of Bulawayo.

With remarkable generosity and vision, he founded Ezasemsamo Theatre Club, a modest but vibrant space where aspiring young actors gather daily to rehearse, share stories and nurture their creativity.

Under his mentorship, the club has quickly become a beacon of hope, echoing with laughter, determination and the voices of a new generation discovering their artistic potential.

"I would like to thank GRAA for the knowledge and skills they imparted to me, unlocking my potential and talent. Now I am able to go to university and acquire a degree, and I am also able to cascade my skills to my community in Cowdray Par," Thamsanqa said with appreciation and confidence.

Thamsanqa’s journey — from a passionate young performer to a mentor and role model — beautifully illustrates the ripple effect of GRAA’s work.

His story is not only one of personal triumph, but also of how the arts can inspire resilience, ignite dreams and transform entire communities.
