In a quiet yet powerful act of compassion, a partnership between the private sector and community organisations is restoring dignity and hope to some of the most vulnerable members of society; offering a glimpse into how targeted support can make a meaningful difference in everyday lives.
Chematek Lubricants, in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Development and Democracy Trust (ZDDT) and partners Sally Foundation, extended support to two vulnerable senior citizens in Makokoba, providing each with a $50 donation through the Business Social Credit Scheme.
The initiative aims to cushion vulnerable households against the effects of poverty while strengthening community-based support systems.
The beneficiaries, both facing significant economic hardship, received the assistance as a timely intervention to help meet essential needs such as food and medical care.
One of the beneficiaries, John Khumalo, a 71-year-old senior citizen, shared his daily struggle to provide for his family. Unemployed and reliant on well-wishers, he expressed deep gratitude for the support.
"My heart is filled with gratitude for this kind gesture. I will be able to buy mealie meal and have a decent meal with my grandchildren," he said.

Another recipient, Madrine Ndlovu (68), who suffers from acute asthma, noted that the assistance would go towards purchasing much-needed medication. “This support has come at the right time for me,” she said.
Local leadership also welcomed the initiative, highlighting its importance in addressing community needs.
Ward 7 Councillor Thandiwe Moyo commended the partnership, stating, “thank you for what your organisation is doing for the vulnerable community during these tough economic times.”
The initiative underscores the impact of collaborative efforts in responding to poverty while reinforcing a culture of care, solidarity, and shared responsibility within communities.
