Progress on the Ward 21 nutritional garden and poultry enterprise, that is set to upgrade the lives of Tshabalala and Sizinda community, is at an advanced stage.
The venture established by ZDDT and partnered by the Global Development Group (GDG) and Sally Foundation, has been received with delight by Councillor Matengu and the ward community and described as a ‘soul saver’.
The project’s structural development is now at an advanced stage following the installation of solar power and water pressure tank after the successful drilling of a borehole at the end of 2014.

“We are really overwhelmed with joy as we observe and watch progress on this employment creation venture. We have been out of employment for more than two decades, after the closure of many companies in Bulawayo,” said Mike Nkiwane of Sizinda.
Another resident, Mrs Sibonokuhle Mbewe of Tshabalala, echoed the sentiments by first ululating:
“ZDDT was brought by the Almighty to take out Ward 21 inhabitants from the wrath of poverty and extricated them to Canaan,” she said before ululating again.
Councillor Reuben Matengu, ecstatic about the development on the site said,
“We are now finally there as you can see the installation of solar power and pressure tank is now complete. We are now on top of the situation as we pray for ZDDT, a God given organisation, to obtain more assistance from their partners. We hope to have more of these projects around Bulawayo as this scheme will benefit more than 150 families and create more than 500 jobs as we will produce tonnes of vegetables and chicken for business,” he said.
As with other ZDDT initiated poverty reduction projects, investor’s co-resource such development, with the local community making significant contributions in the form of labour and fund raising to extend the original infrastructure.
Councillor Matengu went on to say, “The community, who are eventual owners of the project, will labour hard to finalise the infrastructure and do the field work as they contribute a small amount to show their ownership. A lot of people, who are going to be in this project, have no meaningful incomes, thereby making them ready to start working on this project with a true sense of ownership.”
