Soon after receiving her workshop participation certificate, Councillor Ngwenya told ZDDT News Correspondent that she intended to work towards job creation for people in her community.
Inspired by her new found skills, Councillor Ngwenya engaged a pressure group, Employment Creation Service Organisation (ECSO), to build the capacity of the people in her ward to generate income for themselves.
Forty people, mostly women, graduated with certificates in Catering and Poultry. ECSO is a 'pressure' group that engages with all stakeholders in the name of "self-help".
Sebenzela-Shandira Zimbabwe, the underlying theme of ZDDT’s community based work, equips communities with self-help principles in order to help them survive in an environment of mass unemployment.
ZDDT’s Chrispen Tabvura and Angela Mason attended Councillor Ngwenya’s Employment Creation graduation ceremony which was held on 7th of October this year.
This short story exemplifies the value of training and how it boosts the self-confidence of leaders to take the initiative despite very difficult circumstances.
