Local government training intiatives: Certificates presented

BULAWAYO – The culmination of ZDDT’s various training initiatives among communities in Bulawayo, Victoria Falls and Gweru, received special recognition in a recent presentation celebration, held at the Trust’s Head Office, central Bulawayo.

The occasion marked the handing over of certificates to candidates, who had attended a Local Government Capacity Building Workshop, conducted by consultants, African Reform Institute, at an earlier date. Among those honoured were, Cllr. Thembeni Khosa, Ward 12, Cllr. P.Z. Ndlovu, Ward 14 and representatives from Community Action Teams (CATs) in various wards around the city.

Following welcoming remarks, Simon Spooner, ZDDT National Development Officer (NDO), gave an account of the basis for the Trust’s impressive portfolio of training programmes among local communities. He stressed the importance with which ZDDT and supporting partners regard these, adding that it was essential that competent leaders would develop as a result.

Simon did the honours by handing over certificates to the recipients, who numbered five.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ms. Flora Mutig, representing the City’s Mayor, Cllr. P. T. Moyo, Ward 22, remarked; “It is important to note that receiving a certificate, denotes a special achievement in which recipients should take particular pride, while celebrating ownership over the results of training to which they had been subjected.” Ms. Mutig expressed profound appreciation to the Trust and funding partners, for the vital role they play, in contributing to the wellbeing of society, through community responsibility programmes of this nature.

Refreshments were served at the programme’s conclusion and participants took this opportunity to compare notes, or just to catch up on latest developments.

ZDDT organised and administered the Local Government Capacity Building workshop, while KAS provided the funding.
