Learners at Pelandaba Primary School are set to benefit from a transformative agricultural initiative following the installation of a drip irrigation system designed to enhance both learning and food production.

The high impact project, implemented with support from the Zimbabwe Development and Democracy Trust (ZDDT), aims, at low cost, to introduce practical, hands-on agricultural experience within the school environment while strengthening nutrition and sustainability efforts.

The newly installed system will allow pupils to actively participate in crop production, learning essential skills in irrigation, crop care, and sustainable farming practices. School headmaster Pelandaba Primary School Headmaster expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, highlighting its long-term benefits.

“We are very grateful for this support. This project will give our learners practical agricultural skills and a better understanding of food production from an early age,” he said.

He added that the system will not only enhance learning but also contribute to improving the school’s food security.

To ensure the success and sustainability of the project, a dedicated teacher has been assigned to oversee and monitor the irrigation system and garden activities. The initiative marks a significant step towards integrating agriculture into education, equipping young learners with valuable life skills while nurturing a culture of innovation, responsibility, and self-reliance within the school community.
