ZDDT Honours Rodney Beadon for His Commitment to the Bulawayo Community
In fulfilling this mandate, ZDDT awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr Rodney Beadon, for his continuing support of Nkulumane clinic and the welfare of the less fortunate.
Rod is a Rotarian at Borrowdale Brooke in Harare. (Read our previous report on the help Nkulumane clinic has received).
He, and his company, donated solar lighting equipment to Rotary for endowment to the maternity ward and Rod is now in the process of acquiring more equipment for the rest of the medical centre through his networking within Rotary.
“The fact that mothers were giving birth there and having oxygen with candle light just did my head in! That is how it started. Ever since then, I utilise every opportunity I get to bring people down (to Bulawayo) and help.”
AEC (his company) itself has donated a solar lighting system, which is installed at the pre-natal and theatre and then, through ZDDT and Rotary Club of Borrowdale Brooke and E Club in London, we’ve secured another lighting system, he said.
“AEC donated the equipment to those organisations and we will install it within the next two weeks.” He went on to say that the whole idea of the lighting system that is to provide solar energy particularly in the event of grid failure. “Through Rotary, we are trying to raise enough money to provide a full off-grid system for the clinic which runs totally on solar energy...,” said Mr Beadon.
The call to assist this strategic clinic was a result of the Trust’s Councillors led Community Mapping process.
