ZDDT Appeal for Victor Matewa: An Untapped Wiz kid
Education should be a means to empower children and adults alike to become active participants in the transformation of their societies. Learning should also focus on the values, attitudes and behaviours which enable individuals to learn to live together in a world characterised by diversity and pluralism.
Despite his disabilities, Victor Matewa (16) exhibits lofty traits of intelligence, as he has never attended school but can fluently speak English and has taught himself to read and write.
Victor has been rejected by various schools that teach children with disabilities due to unclear reasons. Notwithstanding this major setback, he still has a jovial and positive approach to life, and strongly believes that he can conquer all before him, if awarded an opportunity.
He has never walked in his life and also suffers from Hydrocephalus, a condition that results in the swelling of one’s head.
Victor was identified by the local Councillor under the Trust’s Community Outreach Programme that assesses needs in the society.
