Beefing up Bulawayo's Community Action Teams
This was revealed in a Bulawayo Zone 3 meeting recently. CAT leaders updated the ZDDT Provincial Development Officer on their plans to revitalise the groups’ performances by replacing some members who had grown dysfunctional due to various reasons
ZDDT News Correspondent, Ntando Sibanda (NS), managed to catch up with one of the newly inducted members soon after the Meeting. He had a lengthy interview with Joilin Maparura (JM) of Ward 9, pertaining to her view of the Trust’s interventions in the communities.
Below can be found excerpts of the interview that ensued:
NS: What is your general view and perception of community work?
JM: Community work is really important. The voluntary work that is being done by people is amazing; they help their fellow community members to know about certain important aspects of their constituencies such as Community leaders and the correct channels to follow when laden with grievances.
NS: What inspired you to get involved in voluntary community work?
JM: I am com passionate about helping other people. The good feeling that comes as a result of helping someone is satisfying.
NS: What then is your view of ZDDT’s community interventions; are they helpful in community restoration?
JM: Well, they are coming in very handy. For instance; pothole filling helps prevent unnecessary accidents in the townships and the clean-up campaigns are a positive move towards the curbing of diseases and pollution.
NS: It is possible to totally restore Zimbabwe to its former self?
JM: It is possible. We have to work very hard and persevere to restore the country to its former glory.
Volunteerism is an important aspect of ZDDT’s operations as it goes hand in glove with the Sebenzela concept the Trust is promoting and nurturing. The Sebenzela concept promotes the culture of total ownership of community projects by members of the communities and encourages empowerment of all citizens at grassroots level.
