Siyazibonela - After three months without salaries former Bulawayo council employees go it alone
The group, “Siyazibonela”, which is a Ndebele dialect for “We do it ourselves” conducts cleaning exercises in the whole 16 Suburbs of Ward 3. The Local Authority formally employed them but, due to financial challenges it (The LA) is faced with, Siyazibonela has gone for 3 months without salaries.
“We have gone for 3 months without receiving our salaries. We however said to ourselves that this would not deter us from keeping our neighbourhoods clean. We have since decided to go commercial and anyone who needs our services can hire us for a reasonable fee,” said Mr Tobias Tamayi, a member of the group.
ZDDT has, since its inception in 2009, been preaching the gospel of giving community members fishing rods and teaching them how to fish rather than giving them fish.
It has also emphasised the important role played by volunteerism and empowerment of people from grassroots level in Community Restoration.
