Bulawayo City Councillor throws farewell party (but he could be back!)

In a wide-ranging interview with ZDDT News Correspondent, Cllr Mangena said he is hosting the farewell fiesta, on the 20th of October, as a show of appreciation for the support he has received from the residents.

“By throwing this farewell party, is it my way of thanking the electorate for all the support they have shown to me during my term of office. It is a also a way of saying ‘thank you’ for electing me as their Councillor and entrusting to represent them at the Local Government. This celebration will be open to the whole community and is not a party occasion, therefore everyone from the Ward is invited,” he said.

When responding to whether or not he will stand in the forthcoming elections, he said it was up to the electorate to choose if they still want him as their leader or not. He said if they still want him to stand them he would obey their wishes.

“Pertaining to the upcoming elections, I will leave it to the people to say whether they want me to step down or they want me to contest for another term as their Councillor. As a democratically elected Councillor, I will bow down and make way for a new person if that is want the people have chosen. I will simply follow the will of the people as that is the founding principle of democracy,” he said.
