Bulawayo Mayor Hails Local Authority For Road Maintenance; New Equipment Could Be On The Way

While chairing the February 2012, City of Bulawayo Full Council Meeting, the Mayor said, “We need to appreciate the efforts that have been put in regardless of the dire situation. We are trying to get ZINARA (Zimbabwe National Roads Authority) to assist us.”

Furthermore, he said ZINARA is at the verge of acquiring equipment that will aid the LA in its pothole filling programme and that the City Council will also augment the Authority’s efforts in every way possible.

The LA is on record as committing itself to rehabilitating the city’s outdated and often parlous road network by resurfacing at least 6km of tarred surface terrain in all the 29 Wards.

25 Councillors, 20 of whom actively participated, attended the Meeting. The whole chamber was united in concurring with the mayor’s sentiments.

ZDDT attends the Chamber meetings on a monthly basis, and uses them as yardstick to measure the impact of its interventions in enhancing the performance of the LA through its Local Authority Capacity Building Programme.
