Bulawayo Residents Hail ZDDT's policy of using local leadership to drive progress

The ZDDT Field Correspondent, Ntando Sibanda, went to investigate a local area clean-up campaign.

The organising and coordination team included the Councillor, the Community Action Team and the ward’s residents association, the chairman for which, Mr Alick Gumede, hailed the Trust for its transparency in conducting its operations in the communities.

He was especially impressed by ZDDT’s policy of using local leadership as a gateway to the communities as well as the Trust’s principle of inclusivity.

“I like that you do not come into the communities using unclear and clandestine means. I am impressed by that you come in the open, through the Councillor, who then liaises with other community stakeholders, such as residents associations.

"I like this because it enables us to mobilise people and tell them that there are no hidden agendas in your projects, as we will explain to the best of our capabilities and knowledge. If you continue in this transparent and clear path, you will always have our support,” he said.

This realisation, and assertion, by Mr Gumede, is a manifestation of the Trust’s objective of promoting unity and transparency.

This is achieved by supporting and strengthening institutions and democratic structures built at community level and by enhancing the administrative capacity and leadership of Councillors to deliver basic services in an accountable and transparent manner.
