German development ministry engages ZDDT

BULAWAYO – The Pilot Programme on the Enhancement of Local Authorities Service Delivery Capacity through Community Participation in Urban Agricultural, Cleansing and Greening Initiative.... (Phew!), was successfully launched in Bulawayo recently.

This development comes, following the German Ministry of Development’s release of funding, through a high profile relief agency from that country, GTZ. specifically for use in the programme’s implementation.  Preliminary meetings with key City Council officials, led by the Town Clerk, had also been held prior to the launch.

The Initiative essentially aims at empowering stakeholders with necessary knowledge and skills that would appropriately enable them, to effectively implement various disciplines at different stages entailed in the plan.

In brief, the intention is to provide relevant communities with quick-fix solutions in restoring their environments, through training, cleansing and greening. Achievement of a measure of self sustenance, through establishing nutritional gardens is an added feature.

ZDDT Project Officer, responsible for the direction of the Programme, Mr. Joseph Chilimbe, facilitated at the Launch Workshop, which was meant to familiarise participants on the modalities of the impending exercise. Attendees comprised Councillors from across the various City Wards and representatives of their Community Action Teams (CATs).
