Ekuphumuleni Anticipates Harvesting Fish Soon

In the coming months, the Ekuphumuleni Geriatric Nursing Home (EGNH) in Bulawayo will harvest fish from its pond.
The Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust (ZDDT) and its implementing partners, the Sally Foundation of Australia, funded the EGNH fishpond project to increase food security and self-sufficiency.
Tilapia bream fish fingerlings totalling 2000 were stocked.
EGNH expected to begin harvesting fish in September this year, according to Yvonne Berkout, the ZDDT's horticultural consultant, but will have to wait a little longer for the fish to grow.
"Because the fish were too small to harvest, we will leave them for a few months. I spoke with experts in Harare... slow growth is typical during the fish's dormant season in the winter,” she said.
