Bulawayo residents tidy up health facility grounds

BULAWAYO –  Demonstrating a true community commitment spirit, residents from Mpopoma Township, eight kilometres west of Bulawayo’s City Centre, recently put to good use, tools donated by ZDDT, through their local Councillor.

The occasion was an environmental clean-up of the outer grounds of Thembelithle House; a health facility that cares for very ill HIV/AIDS patients. Speaking on site, Councillor for the area, Elmon Mpofu said that the exercise had been delayed due to various factors in the past. He added he was optimistic that similar campaigns at the institution would become a regular feature on the Ward calendar.

The struggling facility has, of late, experienced a spate of thefts which deprived it of food-stuffs, home appliances, clothing and entertainment equipment. Criminal elements often used cover of night and the added concealment of tall grass and dense bush at the institution’s outer grounds, in order to perpetrate their nefarious activities.

Mr. Moses Dube, Ward CAT Chairman, who assisted Cllr. Mpofu in directing the cleaning campaign, explained that since the affected area was rather large in size, it would take several consecutive exercises before it could be cleared of wild growth and rendered reasonably safe.

Staff at the facility expressed relief at the improved security that had ensued from the clean-up campaign and thanked those who had made the exercise a success.

This particular campaign came under the Trust’s SEBENZELA / 'Work For' Initiative.
