Record attendance for Entumbane cleanup
BULAWAYO – Residents of Ward Ten, Entumbane, a fairly recent addition to Bulawayo’s underprivileged Western Townships, were not so long ago, led in a clean-up and rehabilitation exercise of the neighbourhood public park, by their local Councillor, Mr. P. Dube.
Pointing out that the fifty seven people who participated, represented a record attendance, Cllr. Dube explained that the main components of the campaign were centred on ground cleaning and after-care of trees planted during a recent greening exercise.
This programme had been initiated by ZDDT and funded by GIZ, cooperating with the German Government.
The Councillor remarked; “This exercise has been necessitated by the proliferation of litter in the park and other public areas, while in the tree after-care programme, we are clearing fire guards around the young saplings to protect them from bush fires which are common at this time of the year.”
Cllr. Dube indicated that he was satisfied with the marked difference that the clean-up has made to the area, while at the same time he thanked all who were responsible for its success.
