The occasion was marked by an environmental clean-up exercise, with the Gwanda Town Council and various stakeholders of relevance as the organisers. This event was just a part of a broader initiative dubbed as a Participatory Planning Exercise.

Team ZDDT, represented by Matabeleland South PDO, Mr. Costain Mpala and his group, joined other voluntary workers in making the campaign the success it turned out to be.

Speaking during an interview later, Mr. Mpala said that in his opinion the exercise’s objective was satisfactorily achieved. He said that this involved bringing together various stakeholders with the intention of mutually planning interventions that would improve living standards among local communities.

When viewed in light of the Trust’s social responsibility activities, the exercise under review could be considered as a perfect fit for the Organisation’s SEBENZELA / Work for ... Programme. This initiative seeks to encourage communities to become self reliant and take ownership over their circumstances and environment, while working for the betterment of living standards.
