"I am always willing to learn" - Bulawayo Councillor Prince Dube emphasises the Servant Leadership concept

He says it is of paramount importance for leaders to hold highly the views of the people they represent at the different levels of governance.

“With their (Old peoples} support I gained that strength and spirit to stand and I stood. They come to offer me advice here and there, and we are working well. It’s quite inspiring. What happens is that most of the developmental issues I raise in the Council meeting are straight from the people, especially the old people. I only find a way of putting them across. To me that is representation.

I am not that wise but, to me, representing people means getting what people think and want and then taking it to the Local Authority for consideration. I also hold feedback meetings to hear their concerns and bring feedback from council chambers,” he said.

He says that leaders of this age should embrace both the traditional leadership qualities and the dawning era of servant leadership that is driven by the people.

Cllr Dube says it is the most opportune time for both old and young leaders to evolve with the times and firmly grip the new electronic or technological phenomenon of a global village through cyberspace, to exploit their advantages in order to promote good governance.

“I believe in intellectual, professional and personal integrity as a virtue. As a person, I am self motivated and ambitious and I have a positive attitude towards technology. As such, I am always willing to learn,” said Cllr Dube oozing with confidence and determination.
