ZDDT continues efforts to boost Bulawayo Council's capabilities
Cllr Mangena gave his views in an in-depth interview, where he also took the opportunity to thank the Trust for opting to work, hand in glove, with the Bulawayo City Council to improve service delivery in the “City of Kings”.
"At one time, ZDDT donated those vehicular lawn mowers to the City Council. These are powerful gestures as they assist the Local Authority in the restoration of the city to its previous glory. When we got into Council in 2008, it was at its lowest capacity. It was literally at zero percent capacity but it was organisations like ZDDT that have helped us and now everybody can see that, indeed, there is meaningful and reasonable work being done by the Council," he said.
The visible improvement of neighbourhoods has encouraged residents to pay their utility bills enabling the Local Authority to improve revenue collection and down-stream service delivery.
ZDDT operates within the spirit of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bulawayo council, in which the Trust conducts training workshop, both to Councillors and to the Local Government’s personnel.
The workshops are part of ZDDT’s Local Authority Capacity Building Programme, which has assisted the LA to extensively improve service delivery.
