“ZDDT enhances Service Delivery by the Local Authority” - says Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association chairperson
Speaking to ZDDT’s Field Correspondent, Ntando Sibanda (NS), recently during a Councillor led tour of Ward 10, The Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) chairperson for Entumbane Chapter, Mr Edward Muchemwa (EM), applauded the Trust for bringing in initiatives and interventions that improve the livelihoods of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation, religious or ethnic persuasion.
NS: What is your general view of ZDDT’s involvement in the community of Bulawayo?
EM: I think that ZDDT is playing a very important role in the restoration of the city, as it is involved in a number of activities that are aimed towards the betterment of Bulawayo.
NS: In all of the Trust’s initiatives and interventions, which one do you think is most valuable?
EM: I think the fact that ZDDT is raising awareness about the importance of properly looking after our environment and cleaning it, makes it stand out. We can ask the authorities to bring to book all those that go against rules and regulations on keeping our environment clean, but all these efforts are worthless if the people are not taught, so I think that by teaching the population, ZDDT is doing a sterling job.
NS: What do you think should be done to increase awareness in order to make every project a success?
EM: I wish ZDDT could teach everyone, from the little children at schools to the elderly in the communities. Also If ZDDT retains its stance of being apolitical; it will achieve a lot of positive results as people will understand that the development is for the betterment of every individual in the city without discrimination on political grounds or any other ways.
ZDDT enjoys a Memorandum of Understanding with the Local authority, in which the two partners work hand in glove to enhance service delivery and, through cleanup campaigns, with the aim of restoring the city to its former glory as the cleanest city in Africa.
The programme empowers residents through the development of urban agriculture and formalised small scale business enterprises whilst strictly complying with the city by-laws.
