Bulawayo business gives back to the community

BSCS, a Trust community building initiative, challenges businesses to give back to the communities within which they operate, as part of the enterprises’ Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

Since its establishment, the scheme has received positive responses fromBulawayo based companies, Compupro, a leading local IT specialist, and Freight Consultants, a well known shipping and clearing agent, both of whom have consistently maintained their level of support for the less fortunate.

“I am very grateful for this donation. To be honest with you, I will take this money and send the children to go and buy mealie meal right away because I was stressing about what I was going to give to them today,” said Sheila Ndlovu of Magwegwe West (W29), shedding tears. She lives with 4 orphaned grand children and stroked some time last year.

The other W29 residents who benefitted from this scheme are Girly Moyo (66) and Eveline Moyo (65) and they both live with orphaned grand children and have no source of income and therefore said they would use the donations to purchase vegetables and sweets to sell and raise more money. They are not in any way related and live in separate townships that constitute W29.

In W27 (Pumula South) there were 3 more recipients who include the bed ridden Kesina Ngongoni (90), who is cared for by her 73 year old daughter, Nyengeterai Ngongoni.

All recipients are vetted by the local Councillor before being nominated as potential beneficiaries.

The scheme is part of the Trust’s community outreach programme throughwhich it strengthens relations between the business community, local leaders and the residents.
