Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. ZDDT’s Voluntary Provincial Development Officer(VPDO) Matabeleland South, Costain Mpala (CM), received a Certificate of Appreciation for his sterling community efforts in the region’s capital, Gwanda.
In an interview, that detailed the VPDO’s relationship with the Trust, CM revealed to ZDDT’s News Correspondent, Ntando Sibanda (NS) that he has learnt a lot by association because ZDDT stands for and supports life values in which he also believes.
NS: How was your relationship with ZDDT established and developed?
CM: This relationship was born out of our shared interests in development work. ZDDT’s community based and community focused activities are aligned to my own activities hence such a good relationship.
NS: What is your view of ZDDT’s community involvement?
CM: ZDDT’s activities promote my personal philosophy of community empowerment in real terms. ZDDT does not only introduce programmes but it follows them through and all its programmes are responses to community needs.
NS: How do you feel about receiving this Certificate?
CM: It humbles me to even do much more in helping communities that, in many instances, find themselves weakened by poverty and illness, which makes it even harder to properly empower these communities.
NS: How do you think Community Development should be approached, in order to achieve maximum impact?
CM: Communities should be at the centre of development, their perceptions should guide the development process. The communities are the determinants and driving forces of their destinies and they need to lead in the development of their goals. Do you love playing casino games?
