Bulawayo Vendors Vow to Keep Northend Shopping Centre Clean
The micro-enterprise people said this when the Ward 2 local leader, Cllr S Mataka, led her Community Action Team in a clean-up exercise around the shopping centre.
“This is a very good initiative and comes to us as a challenge. As vendors, we have learnt to value cleanliness as this will have a positive effect on our businesses. As from this day, we will properly and responsibly dispose of our litter so as to keep the area clean,” said Oscar Nyabaku, an airtime vendor.
“I have a plastic bag for my customers to drop their litter and I will encourage other vendors to do the same so that this place can be kept clean all the time. We can then encourage our customers to utilise these bins instead of throwing litter everywhere,” added another vendor, Tiribangani Sigauke.
This development shows the impact of ZDDT’s objectives of encouraging participation, which is a value that promotes community ownership by the residents.
