Council Ideas Workshop A Success

Courtesy of Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust, the Councillor Ideas Forum workshop’s theme which was aimed at the interaction of locally elected leaders from different geographical locations, through a process of leadership training, sharing challenges, and suggested solutions.

According to Councillors from Gweru and Bulawayo, who attended the workshop, the process came as an eye opener and a professional avenue for sharing challenges and ideas for  solutions.

The workshop contained very important subjects on the effective ward Councillor, the role of the ward Councillor, Community leadership, representing local voices, understanding your ward, communicating and influencing, the art of delegation, to mention key topics.

Asked to comment about the workshop, ZDDT National Development Officer, Mr Simon Spooner said, “This particular workshop was innovative and exciting and demonstrated a watershed in inter-council relations.

The response from the participants was very positive and paves the way for future cooperation and interaction between the Cities.”

The workshop, which was opened by Bulawayo’s Town Clerk, Mr Middleton Nyoni, is hoped to enable each Councillor to benefit, not only as a local leader and policy maker, but also as an individual and a team player.

According to Mr Leo Mupezani, who was the workshop facilitator, the ideas forum was a noble and novel initiative. The convergence of different experiences allowed for sharing of ideas and comparing of notes, as evidenced by the frank and robust discussions.

“It’s a pity time constraints did not permit the exhaustion of all discussions. A follow-up workshop will definitely be in order.” said Mupezani.its own hard work.
