Amazing Stars Arts Academy: Delivering Messages to the Community
Amazing Stars Arts Academy led by Forgiven Ndlovu, performed amid cheers and applause from the packed Mabutweni Hall. The drama that depicted the responsibilities of Ward 13 Councillor Lot Siziba demonstrated how development democracy and quality leadership work.
Furthermore, the informative play also highlighted the negative effects caused by littering the environment.
Mrs Liona Nxumalo told ZDDT News that she received an eye opening message from the drama about the dangers of throwing pampers away ‘carelessly’. “I was not aware that it was not healthy to dump pampers in the drain and also in the refuse pit or bag. From today I am going to educate my neighbours and friends who did not come to this meeting, of the good lesson from the drama.”
Another resident, Gogo Mahlipi, expressed that she was not aware that Councillors were also answerable to their communities. “I did not know that we elect Councillors to work for us until I learnt it from these young people acting on stage.” said a 73 year old granny.

According to ZDDT National Development Officer, there is capacity in drama to deliver messages effectively to communities. “Drama exposes the need for anti-littering awareness.
"Drama educates the public and makes them realise the need to clean up their city”.
The Project Manager, Angela Mason, has expressed the need for drama at every Residents Meeting since all people relate to drama:
“Many organisations will benefit greatly from commissioning local drama groups to help spread their messages, be they social or educational. The public platform can range from residents meetings, to churches and schools.
"Not only will the message be effectively and humorously shared; the young performers will also earn a fee for their efforts hence some poverty alleviation.
Forgiven Ndlovu and his Amazing Arts Group have been training youth keen on drama from all 29 wards in a drama project facilitated by ZDDT courtesy of Geraldine Roche.
The project is in line with ZDDTs objectives to build self esteem and improve the lives of ordinary people through participation and ownership.
