Bulawayo’s Ward 13 Councillor, Honourable Lot Siziba, has established a brick moulding project with resources from his own pocket in a bid to reverse youth unemployment.

As we have reported here before, Siziba has worked tirelessly to aid the people of his ward through self-help projects.

The long standing community leader unveiled his latest people-based project recently, and has gathered more than 60 youths who are moulding bricks with a ready market in Iminyela and Mabutweni townships, where toilets for the aged are being constructed.

“I have found that youths in my ward are facing an unemployment predicament, and instead of bickering and blaming anyone, I decided to take the situation head on,” said Councillor Siziba.

Clifford Ncube and Langton Phiri, two of the beneficiaries, praised the community leader for coming to their rescue:

“We actually applaud Baba Siziba for having sleepless nights thinking about us. He has motivated us and we value his efforts after we were recently side lined for employment during the rehabilitation of White City Stadium,” they said.

Ward 13 Community Action Team leader, Forgiven Ndlovu, applauded the youth for their teamsmanship and hard work that has seen them getting business from surrounding areas.

“I am glad to see youths working with elders for the development of the local community, and also for their own income generation. They have realised that a person must sweat to become a master, not pick pocketing or any form of crime,” concluded Ndlovu.

As part of its leadership training programme, ZDDT encourages local leaders to take the initiative on development issues.
