BULAWAYO: Unprecedented difficulties that prevailed in Zimbabwe over the last decade have not been able to dry up the milk of human kindness which flows from the hearts of concerned citizens in the beleaguered nation.
This was graphically demonstrated by a flurry of awards that occurred during the month of March, under the ZDDT’s Business Social Credit Scheme, (BSCS) category.
The awards, in the form of cash grants, took place at ZDDT’s office in Bulawayo’s Central Business District and were presented by the Trust’s Bulawayo PDO, Mr. Bruce Mtengwa.
Beneficiaries of the scheme are selected by an elected City Councillor assisted by his CAT, and should essentially be very needy persons from among the local community.
On Monday the 1st, Bheknkhosi Ncube, a destitute orphan from Ward 2, received a cash donation which was intended to help pay his educational fees.
March 12 was the turn of twins, Lot and Luke Mlotshwa, from Ward 14, whose parents are both unemployed and in a state of acute destitution. The money was meant to go towards paying school fees for the pair.
Victor Mutemwa, a hydrocephalus sufferer from Ward 25, received a cash grant on the 19th, to assist him with treatment costs.
Again on the 21st, it was the turn of Tinashe Mpofu, an orphan from Ward 26. He is being cared for by his elderly and unemployed Grandmother. The money donated will go toward Tinashe’ school fees.
The BSCS is supported by concerned people from the local business community and, in this instance, an anonymous donor and CompuPro. The scheme is being administered by ZDDT.
