Sixty Nine Mothers Adopt ‘Sebenzela’ and Deliver Bulawayo's Cleanest Township
Bulawayo - A group of 69 women from Bulawayo’s Ward 2, which has been recently receiving positive comments from the community for being the cleanest township, have established a catering club and adopted ZDDT’s theme as their name.
Sebenzela-Shandira Zimbabwe, which literally means work for your country, has been an admired motto with which every volunteer in Bulawayo and the surrounding areas would want to associate.
Working under the guidance of Councillor Sithabile Mataka Moyo, the women have achieved a number of successes including their recent assistance to a child headed family member in order to pay school fees.
Councillor Mataka expressed gratitude for receiving positive comments from around the ward and she also applauded the community for their appreciation for, and adoption of, a litter free Bulawayo. “I would like to thank the community for siding with us. We are grateful for their comments and we say as Sebenzela Club, God bless you for keeping our ward clean.”

Sheila Harris, a North End resident commended the women for their involvement in resolving issues affecting the community.
“I am really pleased the Sebenzela women because they care for the disadvantaged. They have also eliminated mosquitos in our ward by their weekly cleaning exercise.” She said. Hillary Carlos of Trenance, also concurred with Harris. “Oh man, these people are God given to our society. They do not need outsiders to commend their good work, but our positive response to their work will keep them motivated,” he added.
Councillor Mataka’s team of women, which has been christened the ‘A Team’ by their ward, is currently in the process of establishing a revolving fund which they intend to contribute towards the development of their recently acquired space for the marketing of a wide range of goods.
Councillor Mataka is a product of ZDDT’s Community Leadership Skills training that has seen many elected representatives achieving prominence in the communities they lead.
