THE market gardens of the Zimbabwe Development Democracy Trust (ZDDT) have inspired Alderman Norman Hlabano to help Pumula residents start their own.
Pumula and Emganwini are townships located in Bulawayo.
Hlabano told ZDDT news that he is currently mentoring Alderman Clighton Zano and some of his members to have their own market garden.
"I am currently helping Alderman Zano start their project in Ward 19 in Pumula. We went through the steps required for them to have a garden project like ours in Emganwini."
"We discussed the process of getting the licences from the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA), but what is of paramount importance is how people should work as a team."
Hlabano said having a sense of ownership in the community, is very important.
"They have to be jealous of their projects. Market gardens are a cash cow; whatever they plant, they will benefit from the produce."
