In the heart of Kirimuva Community Garden, in Bulawayo’s sprawling western townships, Mrs Ndlovu (pictured) is eagerly awaiting a bountiful harvest of tomatoes.

Having meticulously planted 240 hybrid F1 9011 tomato seedlings, each expected to yield around 2kg per plant, she is projected to reap approximately USD$480 from her efforts. Overflowing with joy and satisfaction, Mrs Ndlovu expressed her happiness by stating, “I am thrilled beyond words to see the sweat of my labour coming to fruition.”

The Kirimuva Community Garden was established with a noble purpose in mind - to provide a sustainable source of income for the elderly residents who are not employed. Additionally, the garden serves as a means for them to cultivate fresh vegetables for personal consumption, promoting self-sufficiency, improved nutrition and well-being within the community.

This success story at Kirimuva Community Garden exemplifies the transformative impact that such initiatives can have on individuals like Mrs. Ndlovu, empowering them to not only generate income but also foster a sense of pride and accomplishment through agricultural activities.
