During the visit of Sally Foundation co-funded gardens, Mike Roche (pictured), took time out to officially open the Green Gardens toilet block and solar-powered borehole, both self-financed, marking a significant milestone towards achieving self-sustainability.

Such financial autonomy is an enormous achievement when considered in the context of running a successful business.

This new toilet facility is expected to significantly improve the sanitation conditions for the market garden and surrounding community, providing a clean and hygienic environment for their daily needs and in line with the city council’s health guidelines.

In addition to the toilet block, Mike Roche also officially opened the solar-powered borehole.

These exciting developments are a testament to the determination and resourcefulness of the local gardeners, led by their elected committee, who pooled their resources together to make their vision
a reality.

The solar-powered borehole will provide a reliable and sustainable additional water source for the gardeners’ agricultural activities, ensuring improved food security and income generation this impoverished the community.
