Horticulture School Initiative Returns to KGVI

The ZDDT Horticulture School initiative has triumphantly returned to King George VI (KGVI) School, this time with a renewed focus on capacitating the garden staff.
The programme, which aims to equip staff with the skills to manage the school garden effectively and align its produce with the school's kitchen, kicked off on a high note with the soil testing of the gardens, a crucial step in producing the right quality produce.
The initiative is excited to have one of its former 2022 standout students, Michael, who is being groomed to be the liaison between the garden and the kitchen at KGVI. Michael, who was part of the programme's inaugural cohort, has demonstrated exceptional dedication and expertise in horticulture and kitchen management since then and is a testament to the initiative's commitment to providing skills that can be used for self-growth.
The revived Horticulture School will emphasise hands-on learning, with the ZDDT Agri-Extension Officers working closely with the garden staff to cultivate a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs.
In a seamless process, the produce is then going to be integrated into the school's kitchen, ensuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients for meals.
This holistic approach not only promotes sustainability but also fosters a deeper understanding of the farm-to-table process among all involved.
