Mike Roche, of Sally Foundation, made a special visit to the Green Gardens community market garden during his annual trip to Bulawayo.
The visit highlighted the remarkable progress the garden has made in achieving self-sustainability and community development.
During his visit, Roche officially inaugurated three new, key facilities: the garden's kitchen for its restaurant initiative, the garden office and a robust tool shed.
These additions mark significant milestones in the garden's journey toward self-reliance and economic empowerment.
The restaurant initiative, in particular, is expected to provide an additional income stream for the community while promoting locally grown produce.
In his address to the Green Gardens committee, Roche praised their efforts and encouraged them to continue their development work.
"What you have achieved here is truly inspiring," he said. "Your commitment to self-sustainability and community growth is a model for others to follow. Keep pushing forward and know that the Sally Foundation stands with you every step of the way."
The Green Gardens project, supported by the Sally Foundation and GDG, has transformed the lives of many in the community by providing improved nutrition, increased household income and employment opportunities whilst promoting sustainable farming practices and fostering a sense of unity.
