Bulawayo South Celebrates
The event marked the end of a very eventful year, which saw change in local leadership.
However, this did not interrupt the programme but, instead, it brought in fresh blood, a development that has seen increased activity in the city.
The ceremony was characterised by joy and cheer, as those wards attending narrated their community development and restoration activities throughout the year.
There were continuous rounds of applause as the Councillors and Community Action Teams viewed pictures of their efforts during a PowerPoint slide presented by the Provincial Development Officer (PDO).
“This has been a very beautiful celebration. We are happy to have met and seen what people in other wards are doing. That slide show is a motivator, I am sure that there will be more activities in the wards next year because everybody wants to see himself/herself in those pictures,” said W24 (Nketa 6 & 8 and Nkulumane 5: Cllr G Mangena) CAT Leader, Mrs Elizabeth Mutereko, after the ceremony.
Mrs Mutereko’s words were supported by the host and new W18 local leader, Cllr C Mlalazi (Magwegwe Old, New and a part of Magwegwe West), who said that she and her team felt greatly challenged by the work been done in other areas.
“I would like to thank you Ntando (PDO) and the whole ZDDT Team for all your efforts and for supporting us. This celebration has been an eye opener for my team and I. We always thought we were doing a great job but today we found out that we still have a long way to go if we are to catch up with the other wards. I am glad to say that this slide show relived that people are working hard out there and therefore next year we will pull up our socks, as a ward, and follow suit,” said Cllr Mlalazi.
ZDDT also presented outstanding community volunteers, from the various wards, with Certificates, as a means of recognising their unrelenting and unselfish services to their constituencies.
Councillors identified, vetted andnominated3 people and entities in their wards for recognition.
The Sebenzela Celebration was attended by 120 people from 8 wards.
