Councillors Induct Community Action Teams
Councillors of Ward 1 (Cllr Mlandu Ncube – Central Business District) and Ward 12 (Cllr Lillian Mlilo: Njube – Lobengula) invited ZDDT to coach the new CAT’s on the composition, objectives and functions of the CAT.
The newly inducted CAT’s expressed their enthusiasm to work with other community members, their Cllrs, ZDDT, the Local Authority and any other stakeholders, in order to achieve their goals in development and restoration.
The Councillors were also happy about the selfless commitment of these voluntarycommunity members, saying this will go a long way in the quest to restore Bulawayo as the cleanest urban centre in Africa.
“I would like to thank ZDDT for sending you, Ntando (ZDDT Provincial Development Officer), to come and give a detailed account on the composition and functions of the CAT. I am sure the CAT members here present have taken all you have taught them to heart and will go out there and implement the knowledge and impart it to the rest of the residents,” said W12 Councillor, Lillian Mlilo.
A CAT is a select group of dedicated community volunteers who are specially chosen to fulfil their roles as they are already carrying out duties in their respective positions in other community structures in the ward.
The Councillors select members based on merit and the value that they will bring to community based action. It's an opportunity to promote unity and demonstrate the importance of an all-inclusive society irrespective of tribe, language, affiliation or status.
These volunteers engineer and spearhead development and restoration in their neighbourhoods.
