Titan of Gweru Community Spirit Remembered

Gweru, Zimbabwe - Sebenzela-Shandira Zimbabwe recently honoured one of their volunteers, former Midlands South Provincial Development Officer, Denny Vimbayi Munetsi, who passed away last year.

Munetsi worked tirelessly within the communities of Gweru carrying out urban greening activities and several developmental and community projects. He worked hard to restore the appearance of the city, mobilising residents in clean-up campaigns.

Munetsi won ZDDT's Star of Zimbabwe status in September 2012.

Staffers, Angela Mason, Chrispen Tabvura and the current Midlands Voluntary Provincial Development Officer, Davison Mduba, attended the unveiling of Munetsi’s tombstone at Mtapa Cemetery.

Speaker after speaker praised the late Munetsi for his selflessness in serving the community, regardless of affiliation or creed.

Denny dedicated most of his adulthood towards the restoration of the country and the city in particular, even during its glory days, when all was well.

It was this unrelenting commitment to community development and restoration that attracted ZDDT to Denny who was subsequently incorporated in the implementation of its interventions in the City of Gweru a few years ago.

The Trust did not only find Denny to be resourceful, but he possessed an undying love for his “home town” and its people.

Ever since his association with ZDDT began, Denny continued to exhibit his undying zeal to spearhead development in Gweru, in all its forms, until his untimely call by the almighty.

He utilised his vast experience in both the professional and voluntary fields to effectively and efficiently implement the initiatives and interventions of the Trust. Denny became synonymous with anything that happened in Gweru.

ZDDT introduced a number of projects in the Midlands capital such as the Urban Greening Initiative, Local Authority Capacity Building Programme, Community Nutritional Gardens and cleaning and anti- litter campaigns.

The Trust administers projects in 6 of the 18 wards in Gweru due to limited funding. However, this had not deterred Denny from establishing and nurturing a working relationship with the remaining wards.

His departure has left and indelible a mark that was clearly visible by the presence of the community and the council at the unveiling of his tombstone.

Rest in eternal peace Denny!
