ZDDT presents wheat seed to Makwe Irrigation Scheme farmers
Making the presentation, ZDDT representative, Lewis Jones, gave a brief background into the Trust’s founding concept of introducing people based and people friendly initiatives, into the restorative work it conducts among local communities.
He noted that such activities were always carried out with the cooperation of elected local councillors.
The councillor for Makwe did not attend the function, due to a prior engagement.
The donation, which farmers said was the first of any kind in a very long time, was accepted with warm gratitude by beneficiaries, who noted the appropriate timing of the presentation, saying that they would plant immediately.
The seed is of the winter variety that should ideally be in the ground by 30th May.
Guests of honour at the event were, the District Agricultural Extension Officer, Mr. Ndlovu and a small group of his staff.
