Hlanganani Community Market Garden Kicks Off the Year with a Major Milestone

The Hlanganani Community Market Garden has started the year on a high note with the successful installation of the roof for their long-awaited meeting shed.

This development comes at a crucial time, as the rainy season is in full swing, and the new structure will provide much-needed shelter for workshops, training sessions and community gatherings.

"This is a major success for us," said Mr Makalinga, chairman of the garden.

"We've worked hard to save and contribute to this project because we know how important it is for our community. The shed will not only protect us from the rain but also serve as a space where we can learn, grow and plan for the future."

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that the gardeners themselves are fully funding the construction.

This demonstrates their commitment to financial self-sustainability, a core goal of the organisation. By pooling their resources, the members of Hlanganani have shown that collective effort and determination can lead to tangible progress.

The meeting shed is set to play a pivotal role in the garden’s operations, enabling the group to conduct
educational programs and skill-sharing sessions regardless of the weather.

This is a significant boost for the community, which relies heavily on the garden for both food security and economic empowerment.
