ZDDT tree planting: Mahatshula, Ward 3 celebrate success

The well attended event, that included singing and dancing, with a drama group depicting a relevant theme, was chaired by Ward Chairman, Mr. P. Mlauzi, in the absence of the area’s Councillor, Martin Moyo.

At the start of proceedings, Mr. Mlauzi led the gathering that comprised Ward CAT members, residents, ZDDT Bulawayo PDO, Bruce Mtengwa and Field Correspondent, Lewis Jones, on a tour of the tree-planting site. Of special note was the effective manner in which residents applied the tree after-care knowledge gained from training given by the Trust. Only five of a total of one hundred saplings planted were lost to vandalism. An astounding discovery made by this correspondent is the fact that Mr. Mlauzi has made it his personal mission to establish a record of every tree planted and to assess the progress and well-being of each of these.

Proceedings were wrapped-up with a meal consisting of fresh bread, washed down by the refreshing local drink commonly referred to as ‘mahewu.’
