One of Zimbabwe’s most successful young and upcoming musicians, Vengai Kanhema, popularly known as “Vekann”, has recently applauded ZDDT for their Geraldine Roche facilitated dramas that have seen orphans bearing their hearts.
The Harare based singer, Vekann, who has also promised to work with ZDDT and become their ambassador, is a renowned young musician with a huge following, as his music particularly inspires children.
Kanhema also told ZDDT News that, after reading what he described as an emotive story on the plight of the impoverished orphans on the ZDDT website, he was made to understand that Sebenzela-Shandira Zimbabwe were doing a good job in training youths in the arts.
This story featured orphans residing at Ngozi dumpsite and Mpopoma who have suffered abuse at the hands of relatives, following deaths of parents and guardians.
“I was touched by the story. That’s why I have set aside a few goodies that I am taking to Bulawayo for these orphans. I am also going to stage shows in Bulawayo and surrounding areas, with 60% of the proceeds going towards the upkeep of these special people,” said Vengai.
The musician’s latest video, ‘Usakanganwe’, was voted March 2015 video of the month on local Zimbabwean television.
Vengai has songs such as Rwendo, Dzikama, Tichafara, Rega ndiende, Kabhachura, to mention but a few, that have made it to the top of the charts.
He also applauded ZDDT for publishing human interest articles that also encouraged him to make a determined effort to find these orphans and offered to work with the Trust in their endeavour to equip the disadvantaged in the community.
“You are doing a wonderful job, ZDDT. Had it not been for your stories concerning these innocent souls, the nation would not be in a position to wonder,” he said.
Vengai, and his selfless action, embodies the true spirit of nation building as he comes from distant Harare and speaks a different home language. He is an example to all Zimbabweans.
